Delhi Capitals’ IPL History

Like any other team, they have had ups and downs alongside their performance in each IPL match. Since they were established as one of the IPL squads, Delhi Capitals have come across in-team changes by releasing one player and purchasing new ones on annual IPL auctions. It has affected the team’s history and its style of playing cricket in big arenas against strong competitors.

At the initial stages, Delhi Capitals seemed very close to getting into the semifinals with the best records in the league in 2009. Due to the conflict with a competitive team player, they didn’t compete in the final of the 2009 IPL season. Instead, they managed to qualify for the now-defunct 2009 Champion Leagues Twenty20.

After that unpleasant experience, Delhi Capitals turned out to chase failure on the next IPL seasons. In the 2011 IPL season, they finished last, and in the next IPL edition, they confronted the captaincy change in the squad re-headed to former Sri Lankan Skipper Mahela Jayawardane. In the 2013 IPL season, Delhi Capitals lost their first six matches but won their seventh game against strong Mumbai Indians. Thus, DC kept the required run rate but started losing wickets after the tenth over.

2014 was defined as one more unsuccessful season for Delhi with their poor performance and many losses. They ended up last again. The other matches of 2015-2017 IPL showed the low position of the team compared to others. They suffered again from the change in the captaincy staff. A young Indian batsman Karun Nair took the leader team position after the former captain Indian pacer Zaheer Khan’s serious injury.

However, after the black strip always comes the white one signifying good luck. That is about Delhi Capitals. They deserve better plays, and they can do much better. Maybe it is related to the captain? Ricky Pointing has been chosen to the captaincy in DC and is currently heading this position. To consider it a coincidence or not, but since he became the Capitals captain, the team has made a visible and significant breakthrough. They finally entered the playoffs after seven years of failure in the 2019 IPL season. They could win the first playoffs IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad but lost the second match against Chennai Super Kings.

The advanced 2020 IPL season featured the strong Delhi’s achievement to win. They could reach the finals for the first time, where Mumbai Indians overcame them. Thus, they took third place in the league. This season is regarded as the most successful in the IPL history for Delhi Capitals.

Top 5 IPL players in DC

The last IPL session has shown great progress of the team thanks to some players’ unique skills and contributions.

Shreyas Iyer has been a captain in DC since 2018. Being a right-handed batsman, he could lead the team to successful playoffs in IPL 2019 and finals in IPL 2020. He has scored 519 runs in 17 matches and notes as the fourth in the list of higher run-getters.

Shikhar Dhawan has become the first-ever batsman to hit back-to-back tons in IPL history. Thereby, he got 618 runs in 17 matches with a strike rate of 144. He took the second position in the list of higher run-getters.

Rishabh Pant, a wicketkeeper-batsman, has revealed his talent in the finals in IPL 2020. In 14 games, he scored 343 runs with a poor average of 31. He’s surely a good player to get a win in IPL 2021.

Marcus Stoinis is an Australian all-rounder, having attracted the eyes of fans and experts. With the bat, he could smash 352 runs in 17 matches with an amazing strike rate of 148. With the ball, he managed to pick 13 scalps in 17 outings.

Kagiso Rabada is a good purchase for Delhi Capitals, having presented himself in the IPL as the most consistent bowler and the most wickets picker. In 17 outings, he picked 30 scalps. Such cricket pacer is highly demanded.

A fascinating game is expected in IPL 2021 season by Delhi Capitals. They have taken serious decisions and completed hard work to move forward and crown a champion.

Team history in the IPL

The beginning of the Chennai Super Kings’ career began in IPL 2008. Earlier this year, the Chenna-based franchise bought some of the top-cricketers, including Mahendra Singh Dhoni. At that time, Dhoni was considered to be the most expensive IPL player and was honored to become the team captain. And Kepler Wessels was appointed head coach.

CSK started its career with a game in which the opponent was a rather strong team XI Punjab. This debut, which took place on April 19, 2008, in Mohali, was very successful. The final score was a record for this season of the IPL tournament: 240/5 in 20 overs.

Although the victory in the tournament did not go to the newcomers of the Chennai Super Kings, they were able to take a confident 3rd position in the tournament table (victory in 8 games out of 14).

The following year, the team updated their roster a bit with the addition of a new player Andrew Flintoff. Unfortunately, due to a leg injury, Andrew was forced out of the IPL season.

Until the IPL semifinals, the Kings were confidently going, occupying the second line in the rate, but in one of the games, they lost to the Royal Challengers and did not reach the final.

2011 was a breakout year for the Chennai Super Kings with a win in the Indian Premier League. They also won all matches played at their home stadium in Chennai that season and set a new record as the first IPL team to win all of their home games. In the beginning, everything was not so successful, the team lost the first three games. But then the players gathered all their strength into a fist and were able to rehabilitate, and after wins, in 7 games in a row, they got to the IPL playoff.

In 2012, the team bought Indian athlete Ravindra Jadeja for $2 million, which was very promising. But alas, this IPL year was not successful for the team, and they did not become winners with two wins and two losses.

The 2014 IPL season began with a loss in the first match. The next eight out of nine games were victorious, thanks to which the team took first place in the standings.

By the end of the IPL season, the players allowed themselves to relax and lost three games in a row. Although the final game was won, the Chennai Super Kings took third place in the rankings.

In the following years, the team tried to show its strength in every IPL match as much as possible and occupy a leading position in the ranking.

Top-3 IPL Players

The Chennai Super Kings are the only team in tournament history, which advances to the playoffs every season they compete. CSK is also the only IPL team to defend its title. CSK has had brilliant players over the years who have contributed immensely to their success.

Duane Bravo has been in IPL with CSK since 2011 and was instrumental in their success. This player has scored 104 wickets in 89 matches for CSK. Bravo bowls are famous for their win-win slow yorkers. Bravo has been a regular assistant to MS Dhoni for many years and has won the Purple Caps twice in 2013 and 2015.

Ravindra Jadeja has been an important part of the Chennai team and IPL since he joined the franchise in 2012. He is known for his disciplined bowls and fast overs. Ravindra often made important breaks in the middle of the over.

Mohit Sharma, despite his short IPL career, became a fighter during his time at CSK. He was known for his slower and deceiving moves. Mohit Sharma represented CSK in 48 games and took 58 wickets. He also won the Purple Cap in 2014.
